Alt HAN Newsletter Autumn 2025

A message from Paul Cooper
Welcome to the Autumn 2025 edition of the Alt HAN newsletter.
Our mission at Alt HAN is to deliver products and services that extend the range of the Home Area Network and integrate seamlessly into the smart meter rollout plans of energy suppliers. Our technology is key to ensuring that no customers are left behind in the transition to smart energy – and help meet the government’s re-stated goal to complete the smart rollout by 2030.
10,000 and counting..!!
The main development to report and celebrate over recent months is the sustained increase in the number of energy consumers who are directly benefiting from Alt HAN. Our range extender devices have now been deployed by energy suppliers in over 10,000 homes. Each one representing a customer that would not otherwise have access to smart metering. The foundations are set for further growth, with deliveries to energy suppliers increasing significantly and thousands of qualified meter installers now trained up to install the Alt HAN bridges.
The ramp up has been underpinned by the launch in August of version 2 of our Bridge 2 and 3 devices. An improved design which makes the plug-through feature easier to use for customers. All devices delivered from August onwards are version 2 designs. Another step in building the right platform for a successful mass rollout.

An Alt HAN Bridge 2 version 2
Scaling up has also been the theme in recent months for our Crowded Meter Room (CMR) service. We have now completed works in over 90 meter rooms, unblocking a physical barrier to smart metering for over 2,300 households in apartment blocks. There are many hundreds more buildings in the pipeline as we continue leveraging our ability to work on behalf of all energy suppliers with customers in a single building, and build new partnerships with housing associations, local councils and private landlords and building managers.

Bridging the smart energy gap with landlords and building managers
The Alt HAN bridges provide a seamless, integrated solution to help energy suppliers install more smart meters. But in some apartment buildings this can only happen after space has been created in meter rooms for our Bridge 1 devices to be wired in next to the electricity meter.
The Alt HAN Crowded Meter Room (CMR) service solves this problem on behalf of all energy suppliers. We work through our operational partners SMS and IMSERV and with landlords and building managers to survey, design and complete works to free up space . And then energy suppliers are given the green light to book smart meter installation appointments. The service has already completed works in close to a hundred meter rooms, unlocking smart for an average of 60 customers in each of the buildings we work in. And a further 40 rooms lined up for completion before the end of 2025.
Over recent months the Alt HAN team has been taking the CMR message on the road to build awareness and buy-in among social and private-sector landlords and building managers. Critically, this will help us identify and address more buildings across GB. Operations Director, Chris Perry and his team have showcased the CMR service at trade and industry events, including the Housing 25 exhibition in Manchester. We are already seeing growing interest and engagement, and expect volumes to ramp up in 2026.

Introducing…
Jorja Imber, Secretariat and Office Manager

As Secretariat and Office Manager, I lead a small but mighty team that keeps Alt HAN Co’s administration running smoothly while looking after the day-to-day running of the office. We manage governance processes, coordinate Alt HAN Co meetings and help ensure our business operations function effectively. One of the things I enjoy most about my role is being part of such a supportive and collaborative team, it’s rewarding to know we help the wider business run efficiently every day.
Before joining Alt HAN, I spent many years in Assistant roles, including eight years at Deutsche Bank where I worked as a C-suite PA before moving into Business Management, taking responsibility for governance within our team. A career highlight from my time there was co-leading an exciting initiative to support graduates on the autistic spectrum in entering the world of work, a programme that successfully helped a talented cohort begin thriving careers at the bank, many of whom still work there today.
Outside of work, I’m a mum to two small children, so much of my free time is spent on the sidelines of football pitches or at various kids’ parties! When I do get some downtime, I love eating out, spending time with family and friends, and I’ve recently developed a love/hate relationship with military bootcamp and reformer Pilates!
Organisational news
The theme of scaling up also applies to Alt HAN as an organisation. Our strong culture, and passion and pride in what we do, is a defining feature. Our mantra of people, passion, pride continues to drive us forward and make Alt HAN a great place to work. This has now been recognised with a Silver accreditation against the Investors in People standard. We have also stepped up to join the Women’s Utility Network, leading by example to champion women in the energy sector including by sharing the initiatives we progress through our own staff-led Women & Allies committee.

People, passion, pride also extends well beyond the office. Driven by our vibrant staff committee, Alt HAN are proud supporters of Coram’s Fields – a children’s charity in central London close to our offices, providing a children’s only park and playground as well as a youth centre for children aged 8-16.

Over the past six months we have taken part in various activities from volunteering to fund raising and working directly with the young people who use the centre. We have volunteered at the Coram’s Field Play Day, a free festival during the summer which provides a day of fun and games for all children to enjoy. We also recently held a Halloween Bake Sale at our offices raising over £500 and have had further volunteers help at the free Coram’s Fields Fireworks Night to ensure the smooth running of the evening. Our team are also extremely proud of the work we do supporting young people at digital clinics, helping with CV writing and other digital literacy skills.
